Waste Identification, Separation & Sorting

Outcome
Clean, well-characterised material streams that are ready for reuse, recycling, upcycling or conversion to energy and bio-products.

What we do
We analyse and characterise complex waste and by-product streams, select and design sorting routes, and specify sensing and actuation systems. This includes material fingerprinting, sensor-based sorting, design of mechanical handling, and integration with downstream processes.

AI capabilities
We apply AI to make sorting more accurate, flexible and informative:

  • Computer vision systems that recognise objects and materials on conveyors and in chutes
  • Sensor-fusion models that combine NIR, hyperspectral, X-ray and other sensors for improved classification of multi-material items
  • Machine-learning models that adapt sorting logic based on changing input streams and performance data
  • Data pipelines and dashboards that provide continuous feedback on purity, yield and system health

These tools are developed and tested using laboratory data and pilot experiments before they are prepared for implementation.

Good for
Material recovery facilities, manufacturers with complex by-products, municipalities and operators of waste management infrastructure.
